JobTrainer

JobTrainer – As part of its Economic Response to COVID-19, the Australian Government is providing fee free or low-fee training courses across the nation through its $1 billion JobTrainer Fund. The Australian Government has partnered with state and territory governments to establish a new $1 billion JobTrainer Fund.

The Australian Government is providing $500 million in 2020-21 and this is being matched by contributions from state and territory governments. Job seekers and young people, including school leavers, can now take advantage of subsidised training to learn skills for jobs in demand. Government Subsidies will also be available to employers to keep apprentices and trainees in work.

Job Seekers and Young People

The JobTrainer Fund will provide up to 340,700 additional training places that are fee free or low fee, in areas of identified skills need such as health, aged and disability care, IT and trades for job seekers and young people, including school leavers.

What is the eligibility for Job Trainer (Non Traineeship) in Victoria?

The Victorian Government has partnered with the Commonwealth Government to jointly invest up to $260 million under the Job Trainer Fund to increase access to training for thousands of Victorians who have been impacted by COVID-19. This investment creates an extra 50,000 fee free or low fee training places for your people and job seekers in over 144 priority needs courses.

A person can participate in Job Trainer if they are:

  • 17 – 24 years old when the course starts; or;
  • A job seeker (unemployed) of any age.

The normal Skills First further eligibility criteria applies to Job Trainer but with two exceptions;

  • No upskilling requirement
  • No two at a level in a lifetime limit

You can be granted an eligibility exemption against the above but keep in mind you still need to be;

  • An Australian Citizen; or
  • A Permanent Australian Resident; or
  • A New Zealand Citizen

What additional eligibility evidence is required at the time of enrolment for Job Trainer in Victoria?

  • DOB Evidence: Drivers License, Birth Certificate, Passport; and/or
  • Job Seeker Evidence: Health Care Cards, Separation Certificate from Employer, Redundancy/Retrenchment letter from Employer.

JobTrainer New South Wales

Skilling for Recovery is part of a matched funding commitment of almost $320 million between the NSW and Australian Government’s under the JobTrainer Fund. Skilling for Recovery is a key component of the State’s COVID-19 Recovery Plan.

It includes an additional 100,000 fee-free full and part qualification training places to reskill, retrain and redeploy the workforce to industries where there are skills shortages and emerging employment opportunities. Skilling for Recovery will help job seekers retrain or up-skill to enhance their credentials and support school leavers to enter the workforce for the first time.

What is the Student eligibility for Smart & Skilled funding in NSW?

The normal Smart & Skilled further eligibility criteria applies to a Skilling for Initiative participant;

  • Applicants must live in NSW or in a defined interstate NSW border area identified via select post codes
  • Be an Australian Citizen or; a permanent Australian Resident or; a Humanitarian Visa holder or; a New Zealand Citizen; and
  • Is no longer in secondary school

What is the eligibility for Job Trainer in New South Wales?
Students that meet Smart and Skilled eligibility criteria as per Schedule 2 of the Smart and Skilled Contract Terms and Conditions that are one of the following four categories are eligible for Skilling for Recovery funded training:

  • A young person aged 17 to 24 at commencement of training, regardless of employment status, including Year 12 School leavers.
  • A person who is a recipient of a Commonwealth Government welfare benefit as specified in the Smart and Skilled Fee Administration Policy
  • An unemployed person.
  • An employed person who is ‘expected to become unemployed’ as defined by the Department.

What additional eligibility evidence is required at the time of enrolment for Job Trainer?

JobTrainer South Australia

JobTrainer is a State and Federal Government initiative to support skills and training in South Australia for school leavers, job seekers, and young people including those affected by COVID-19.
JobTrainer covers off industries where there is high demand for skilled workers such as aged care, disability care.
JobTrainer enrolments are available from 1st of October 2020.

What is the eligibility for Job Trainer in South Australia?

A person can participate in Job Trainer if they are:

  • 16 – 24 years old when the course starts; or;
  • A job seeker (unemployed) of any age; or;
  • Hold a Health Care, Pensioner or Veteran Affairs Concession Card.

‘SA Work Ready’ standard eligibility criteria also applies to Job Trainer applicants;

  • Reside or work in South Australia; and
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen; or
  • A permanent Australian Resident; or
  • An eligible Visa holder.

What additional eligibility evidence is required at the time of enrolment for Job Trainer?

  • DOB Evidence – Drivers License, Birth Certificate, Passport; and/or
  • Job Seeker Evidence: Health Care Cards, Separation Certificate from Employer, Redundancy/Retrenchment letter from Employer.

JobTrainer Queensland

Queensland Government has partnered with the Commonwealth Government under the Job Trainer Fund to increase access to training for Queenslanders who have been impacted by COVID-19. Job Trainer covers off industries where there is high demand for skilled workers such as aged care, disability care.

The Job Trainer enrolment period is between 8th of February 2021 to 30th of September 2021 (or earlier if notified by The QLD Government)

How does Job Trainer benefit Students?
Job Trainer is available to young people (17-24) and job seekers in conjunction with the normal QLD Student Eligibility Requirements for Certificate III (C3G) and Certificate IV (HLS) programs.
Note: Eligible students under Job Trainer have access to low fee training in all Job Trainer courses.

What is the eligibility for Job Trainer in Queensland?

  • A person can participate in Job Trainer if they are:
  • Permanently reside in Queensland; and;
  • An Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residence, or a New
  • Zealand Citizen; and;
  • Have finished school or no longer be at school (including home schooled); and;
  • Not already be enrolled in training (includes VET and higher education courses); and;
  • Not have previously completed a qualification funded under the Job Trainer Fund; and;
  • Either be a Job Seeker, a School Leaver or a Young Person (see definitions below).

What is the definition of a Job Seeker?

  • A job seeker means an individual aged 15 years or older who is;
  • Out of work; and/or
  • In receipt of income support payments.

What is the definition of a School Leaver or Young Person?

  • A School Leaver or a Young Person means an individual who is 17 – 24 years of age, regardless of their employment status.

What additional eligibility evidence is required at the time of enrolment for Job Trainer?

  • DOB Evidence: Drivers Licence, Adult Proof of Age card, Heavy Vehicle or Marine Licence, Birth Certificate, Passport; and/or
  • Job Seeker Evidence: Evidence of income support payments from Centrelink; or
  • Job Seeker Evidence: Evidence that you are in receipt of support from a Job Active, Disability, Employment Services or Community Development programme provider.
